Smyrna Business Association
The Smyrna Business Association was formed in the Spring of 1983, by a small group of business persons that was interested in making the Smyrna area a more inviting place in which to live and do business.
Joining together, a concentrated effort was made to improve Smyrna's isolation and image. Working with the Local, County and State governments, our goal to have an underpass or overpass at the railroad tracks at Atlanta Road began again after being dormant for 20 years. On July 11, 1988, the Arthur T. Bacon Memorial Bridge was officially dedicated and this railroad overpass gave direct access to the Smyrna Area. About the same time, the SBA also successfully proposed to have the name of "Windy Hill Road" extended to South Cobb Drive.
On April 4th of 1987, the lighting of South Cobb Drive was dedicated during the Jonquil Spring Festival. . The SBA raised $10,000.00 to present to the City of Smyrna, resulting in the lighting becoming a reality. The lighting of South Cobb Drive to I-285 and North to Atlanta Road was completed along with the widening of Windy Hill Road to Austell Road.
The SBA encourages young people to learn about free enterprise and provides a scholarship each year to an outstanding graduating senior at both Campbell High School and Osborne High School to pursue a business-related college degree. Since 1996, the SBA has been a Partner in Education with Campbell High School.
Among the SBA's other civic events through the year are its Adopt-a-Mile program benefiting Keep Smyrna Beautiful, the annual Fire and Police Appreciation cookout, and the Shop-with-a-Hero holiday program for less fortunate children.
The SBA's fiscal year ends in June with a luncheon along with the presentation of awards and the installation of officers.
By working together, the business community and our elected officials will plan and bring forth projects that will continue to make the Smyrna area a leader in Cobb's business community, and a vibrant, desirable environment in which to work and live.
General lunch meetings are held on the first or second Thursday of each month.
